Oenologists Paul Hobbs and Marco Puyo join VSP Wine Group

Viña San Pedro Wine Group is proud to announce the arrival of two new oenologists to the the group. Paul Hobbs and Marco Puyo have both been recruited as part of San Pedro’s increased focus on premium winemaking and they will be responsible for looking after the group’s top-end brands.

Paul Hobbs has now assumed the role of consultant winemaker to Viña San Pedro and Finca La Celia, the group’s subsidiary in Mendoza, Argentina. Paul is an extremely well known and respected flying winemaker with more than 20 years’ experience with wineries from around the world. His own wines are critically acclaimed and his knowledge will be invaluable as his work focuses on the premium wines within the Viña San Pedro group.

Chilean winemaker Marco Puyo has recently joined VSP’s prestigious modern winery at Molina, which has the largest area of continuous area of vineyards in South America. He has had a remarkable career so far, working for a number of notable Chilean wineries, including Viña Errázuriz, Casa Lapostolle, and Los Vascos as well as numerous producers in France. Marco will be responsible for VSP’s premium lines; Castillo de Molina, 1865, and Cabo de Hornos.

Paul and Marco join a young, technical, and very motivated oenological team within the VSP group, who will continue to be responsible for Viña San Pedro’s successful brands 35° South and GatoNegro. Winemaker Irene Paiva will work on a consultancy basis for the group where she will be responsible for overseeing specific projects. Both of the new winemakers will strengthen a modern, innovative, and efficient winemaking process at Viña San Pedro, whose aim is to produce wines which are appreciated by consumers and distinguished by the trade.
